Why Story of Kunning Palace.
Why Story of Kunning Palace Had Me Hooked From Episode One (And Never Let Go)
If there’s one drama that completely took over my emotions, it’s definitely the Story of Kunning Palace. I went in thinking it would be just another palace drama where the consorts and all the women in the palace are fighting for their space in the harem… but wow! I was NOT ready!!
At first I got a little confused with the first episode when I saw the leads committing suicide and the female lead being forced to unalive herself, but I was later on hooked. From the very first episode, the tension, the betrayal, the second chances—it pulls you in so fast you don’t even realize you’re already attached.
I honestly say The story of Kunning Palace is not just about romance—it’s about regret, power, and rewriting fate.
The Story (Simple but Emotional):
The drama follows Jiang Xuening, a woman who once became Empress because of her own selfish intent and gains. Her journey to the top was filled with manipulation, betrayal, and painful choices that included leaving the man she loved (Zhang Zhe) because of the power and security that comes with being an Empress. At some point, she thought that she was doing “some things” to secure and protect her man but nope!
She then gets a second chance.
She goes back in time, before everything went wrong, determined to change her fate and that of her loved ones to avoid the mistakes that destroyed her previous life, but fate had something else in store for her.
And this is where things get REALLY interesting.
Why This Story Hits So Hard:
What makes this drama different is that the female lead isn’t perfect. She is flawed, smart, sometimes selfish, and what I love the most is that she is not like one of those women that are weak or rather pretend to be weak in order to obtain favors in the harem, and that’s what makes her feel REAL.
She tries to fix their past while still being pulled by emotions that she can't control.
Xie Wei (The male Lead).
Oh! don’t even get me started on Xie Wei. He is one of the strongest character I have ever seen in cdrama world. He is dark, he loves so deep and he fights or let's say manipulate to the maximum, I love his character the most.
Photo credit goes to rednoteThe Chemistry & Tension:
Every scene between Jiang Xuening and Xie Wei feels intense. Not soft. Not easy. Just… complicated in the best way. Despite them not seeing eye to eye on every circumstance but you can feel the love Xie Wei has for Xuening (He calls her Ninge’r). He can do anything, even kill for her.
You can literally feel the tension through the screen.

There are moments in this drama that just sit with you. The kind where you pause and just stare at the screen like… the way Xie Wei kissed Ninge’r (who said that).
Why am I this invested?
It’s not just about what happens, it’s about how it makes you feel. It keeps on the edge of wanting to see even more and what will happen next . Amazing.
Why Fans Can’t Move On:
Strong female lead with depth,
Dark romance that feels different, (fan of dark romance here)
Plot twists that actually shock you,
Characters that aren’t black and white
This drama doesn’t spoon-feed you emotions, you experience them. You feel them!
Also the side characters did their parts really well. Zhang Zhe Xuening’s ex boyfriend was quite a character and played so well. Others were supporting but did amazing to build such a great drama.

My final view on the drama:
I didn’t expect to get this attached, but here we are.
If you haven’t watched it yet, just know, you’re not ready. And if you. HAVE watched it… then you understand exactly what I mean.
Did this drama ruin you emotionally too or is it just me? As a fangirl I can say I loved every bit of it, all the emotions, the dark side of it, the drama and the LOVE.
Let’s talk in the comments, I need to know I’m not alone.

♥️ I love the drama
